The Platteville Pioneer Museum staffed by the Platteville Historical Society, houses artifacts, photos, family histories and memorabilia from the people of the Platteville area. It also contains information about another important area fort known as Fort St. Vrain. Only a simple historical marker on one acre of preserved land designates the original fort site, but the museum continues to keep the history of the trading post alive. |

| Visit the site of an 1835 fur-trading fort, and follow the paths of founders Louis Vasquez and Andrew Sublette. The traders employed many of their mountain-man friends, including Baptiste Charbonneau and Jim Beckwourth, at their adobe outpost on the South Platte River. Fort Vasquez Museum, 35 miles northeast of downtown Denver on U.S. Highway 85, features displays that interpret the fur-trade era. Please call 970-785-2832 to confirm open dates and times |
