10th USAWEST Square Dance Convention
COMPETITION!
It is amazing how popular this event is becoming! A few years ago the main competitive square dance venue was at the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah.
In 2009 the National Square Dance Convention, Long Beach, California, held the first competition at their event. It was very successful with 33 squares showing up to participate! In September 2009, Jon Jones, Caller from Texas, shared with the dancers in Hastings, Nebraska, that he and other callers had been participating in calling for Last Square Standing competition in Texas for a couple of years. A competitionwas held for the first time in Hastings, and the room was packed with both competitors and onlookers!
We are proud to announce the first USAWEST SQUARE DANCE CONVENTION® Competition will be held at 10th USAWest Square Dance Convention, and we are very pleased that Dave and Rose Marie Chapman of St. George, Utah have agreed to be our Competition Chairman! They have been the Co-Chairmen of the Huntsman World Senior Games Square Dance Program for eleven years and bring spirit, dedication and fun to Competitive Dancing.  Roger and Debbie Schappell, Fort Collins, Colorado, are the Assistant CompetitionChairman. They have extensive experience as alumni members of the Colorado State University "Aggie Haylofters Demo Team" and have been involved for many years with the 4-H square dance competition program. Roger, a popular Colorado Caller, will be heading up the practice session and will be the primary caller for the Saturday morning competition.  It is indeed an honor to have all four of them on our Team!
Our Convention Competition dancing will be a modified version of the competition in St. George. First, second and third place winners will be chosen in Mainstream and Plus. If there is enough interest, there may also be an Advanced competition as well.
Competition will be held on stage in beautiful Monfort Theater at the Union Colony Civic Center, set for 10:30 AM Saturday Morning, August 14. Your dancing friends, if they are not participating with you, will be able to sit in comfortable seats to watch this event to cheer you and your square on to victory!Â
Competition practice will be Friday morning, August 13 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM.  Award presentations and all of the interesting details of this event will be announced later!

You must be registered for the 10th USAWest Square Dance Convention to be able to compete.
